Emergency Services

Dispatching: For all emergency calls dial 9-1-1. The RCMP also maintains (204) 444-3391 as an alternative emergency number.

The Rural Municipality of Springfield has been contracting Enhanced 911 Services from the City of Brandon since 1999. This service provides a commonly known 24-hour emergency telephone number to residents for police, fire/rescue and emergency medical services. The three number prefix of the caller’s telephone number automatically relates to their service area (general vicinity) on the emergency operators screen.

Civic Addressing:

In 2004, the implementation of civic addressing in rural areas of the municipality assigned a specific number to each residence. It works similar to a city address, although this provincially accepted system uses measurements. Each east/west road is measured in miles from the U.S. Border and every north/south road is measured from the Prime Meridian. In a rural, or undeveloped area a 5 digit is assigned and the first two digits relate to the number of miles from one of these two reference points. The remaining three refer to the distance from the preceding mile. To provide an emergency operator with a clear and proper location, callers should always provide their civic address number and road name or mile.
